Agewell in Hammersmith & Fulham is an Adult Education programme of physical activity and healthy living classes open to anyone over 50 years of age.

Agewell on Wheels is an associated pilot project being organised with funding from the Community Cycling Fund for London which will run through the summer and into the autumn 2008.

The project aims to attract older people to return to cycling as a healthy form of transport and exercise. Bicycles have been purchased and will be available for course participants. If people wish to bring their own bikes, a free bike check is offered during the week preceding each course.

The first course will run for 6 weeks one day per week on a Thursday between 11.00 am and 3.00 pm. The dates are: 5, 12, 19, 26 June and 3, 10 July 2008.

There will be a shorter 4 week course for returning more experienced cyclists one day per week on Thursdays, 11.00 am until 3.00 pm on 31 July, 7, 14 and 21 August 2008

The last 6 week course will run on each Thursday between 11.00 am and 3.00 pm on 18, 25 September and 2, 9,. 16., 23 October 2008.

The Venue is Linford Christie Stadium, Artillery Way, off Du Cane Road, Wormwood Scrubs, Londoln W12 0AE. We will have use of the sports track for cycle training.

Each session will open with a warm up led by a fitness instructor and will then move to basic cycling skills, mainly level 1. The aim will be to develop safer cycling practice and try and eliminate old habits.

As soon as the group is ready there will be off and on road group rides . Rides will be designed to take in a lunch stop in pleasant surroundings and preferably near to a refreshment source such as in a park where drinks can be purchased for the group A leisurely pace is anticipated following suitable local routes on quiet roads and green routes.

Fees will be £7.00 for borough residents and £23 for non residents for each of the 6 week courses. This fee will entitle you to one other course in the Agewell programme. Fees for the 4 week course will be £6 for borough residents and £10 for non residents, which will include one other activity in the Agewell summer programme.
